India Women have been dealt a major setback in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, with all-rounder Shreyanka Patil officially ruled out of the tournament after suffering an ankle injury during the match against the Netherlands on June 17. The injury occurred while Shreyanka was fielding, forcing her to leave the field and undergo further medical assessment.

Following the evaluation, the International Cricket Council’s Event Technical Committee approved a replacement, paving the way for leg-spinner Prema Rawat to join India’s squad for the remainder of the tournament.

Prema has steadily built a strong reputation in India’s domestic and development pathways. A regular member of the India A setup, the young spinner played a crucial role in India’s successful Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars campaign, claiming eight wickets in five matches. She also impressed during India A Women’s tour of Australia last year, where she finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker with seven scalps in just three matches.

Her inclusion adds another spin option to Harmanpreet Kaur’s squad as India prepares for the crucial stages of the World Cup. The team management hopes Prema can make an immediate impact if called upon during the tournament.

Prema’s promotion to the senior side has also triggered changes in the India A squads for the upcoming England A series. The Women’s Selection Committee has drafted Niki Prasad into the India A T20 squad, while experienced all-rounder Minnu Mani has been added to the India A One-Day squad.

The reshuffle reflects the selectors’ confidence in India’s growing talent pool, with several young players continuing to move seamlessly between the India A and senior setups. As India pushes for World Cup glory, all eyes will now be on Prema Rawat as she gets an opportunity to make her mark on the biggest stage in women’s cricket.

India’s updated squad now features Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Smriti Mandhana (vice-captain), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh, Yastika Bhatia, Radha Yadav, Renuka Thakur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud and Prema Rawat among others.
