Delhi Capitals could be on the verge of one of the biggest squad overhauls ahead of IPL 2027, with reports suggesting that Rishabh Pant is set for a sensational return to the franchise where he built his reputation as one of India’s premier wicketkeeper-batters. After spending the last two seasons with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Pant is reportedly close to rejoining Delhi Capitals in a blockbuster trade that could reshape both teams ahead of the next campaign.

According to reports, the proposed deal would see star spinner Kuldeep Yadav move to Lucknow Super Giants, while Pant heads back to Delhi. The paperwork is believed to have already been submitted to the BCCI, with both franchises awaiting final approval.
Pant’s potential return has immediately sparked speculation about KL Rahul’s future with the Delhi Capitals. Former India and Karnataka pacer Dodda Ganesh believes Rahul may need to reassess his position if Pant rejoins the franchise. “KL Rahul should ask for release and go to the auction if Pant comes back,” Ganesh posted on X, reflecting the growing debate around Delhi’s batting and leadership structure.

The two players experienced contrasting IPL 2026 campaigns. Pant, who was signed by Lucknow for a record-breaking ₹27 crore, struggled to make the desired impact. He managed 312 runs during a disappointing season as LSG finished at the bottom of the points table. Following the campaign, Pant stepped down as captain, adding further uncertainty about his future with the franchise.

In contrast, Rahul enjoyed one of his most productive IPL seasons despite Delhi Capitals narrowly missing out on the playoffs. The stylish right-hander scored 593 runs in 14 matches at a remarkable strike rate of 174.41, highlighted by a stunning unbeaten 152 against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Delhi’s changes may not be limited to the playing squad. Reports also indicate that former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is expected to join the franchise’s support staff. The development is particularly significant given Pant’s close working relationship with Yuvraj in recent years.

Meanwhile, former India captain Sourav Ganguly is expected to return in a key cricketing role, while current head coach Hemang Badani faces an uncertain future after Delhi Capitals finished sixth in the IPL 2026 standings. If these moves materialise, IPL 2027 could mark the beginning of a new era for the Delhi-based franchise.
