India A will take on Sri Lanka A in the final of the ongoing List A tri-series, with both teams having impressed throughout the tournament with their fearless and competitive cricket. The summit clash carries extra intrigue as young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi prepares to face Sri Lanka A once again, weeks after a heated on-field incident that grabbed headlines across the cricketing world.

The 15-year-old prodigy was involved in a tense altercation with Sri Lanka A players during the Super Over of a previous encounter between the two sides. India A eventually lost that contest, and emotions spilt over after the match. What began as a verbal exchange reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, resulting in disciplinary action. Vaibhav was later fined 50 per cent of his match fee for his involvement in the incident.

Ahead of the highly anticipated final, India A captain Tilak Varma spoke exclusively to Sportstar about leadership, handling pressure, and mentoring one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket. During the interview, Tilak was asked about the guidance he has offered Vaibhav as the teenager continues his rapid rise through the ranks.

Tilak acknowledged that the transition from age-group cricket to the senior level would be one of the biggest challenges in Vaibhav’s career. However, the left-handed batter expressed complete faith in the youngster’s talent and ability to succeed on bigger stages.

“It will definitely be challenging for him when he makes that transition to the senior men’s team. He’s come from U-19 cricket, had a fantastic IPL and is now representing a senior side. But he’s extremely talented. If he gets going, he can finish games on his own. The most important thing for someone like him is backing. Young players need freedom,” Tilak Varma said.

The India A skipper emphasised that his primary message to Vaibhav has been to remain fearless and continue playing the brand of cricket that brought him success. According to Tilak, young players often thrive when they are allowed to express themselves without the burden of excessive expectations.

“I’ve told him to keep playing his natural game, enjoy and not take pressure. At his age, this is the time to learn and express himself. Whatever he has achieved so far has come from playing positively. There’s no reason to change that,” he added.

Tilak Varma also revealed that he has made himself available as a mentor and support system for the teenager. He reiterated that the team management and players are fully backing Vaibhav and hope he can make a significant impact in the final against Sri Lanka A.
