Prince Yadav produced one of the moments of the match with a superb running catch to send Rashid Khan back in the third ODI against Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, June 20. The young India pacer, who had already impressed on debut in Lucknow with a similar athletic effort to dismiss Ibrahim Zadran, once again showed excellent awareness and commitment in the deep.

Afghanistan were going through a difficult phase in the final powerplay after Mohammad Nabi fell in the 38th over. With captain Hashmatullah Shahidi holding one end but running out of partners, Rashid tried to counterattack in the 41st over against Harsh Dubey. The Afghan all-rounder went for a slog sweep, but he failed to middle the ball and instead sent it high into the off-side.

What followed was a stunning piece of fielding from Prince Yadav. Positioned at deep cover, the right-arm pacer sprinted in at full pace, judged the ball perfectly and completed the catch with a sharp late dive before tumbling over after impact. It was a brilliant display of anticipation, speed and composure under pressure, and one that drew plenty of attention as India tightened their grip on the contest.

Rashid Khan’s dismissal triggered a collapse for Afghanistan. In quick succession, the visitors lost two wickets through run-outs, which left them reeling at 206/9 in the 42nd over. What had looked like a potentially useful lower-order push ended in disappointment as India continued to close in on a dominant finish.

Prince Yadav also made a strong all-round contribution in the field. Along with his sensational catch, he finished with figures of 1/38 from seven overs, including the important wicket of Azmatullah Omarzai. That strike broke a dangerous 105-run stand and removed one of Afghanistan’s main sources of resistance.

Afghanistan were eventually restricted to 218 after opting to bat first, with Shahidi’s unbeaten 102 off 131 balls standing out as the lone major innings. He was the only batter in the side to cross 30, which underlined how much pressure India applied throughout the innings. With a modest target in front of them, Team India were well placed to complete a 3-0 clean sweep and begin their ODI World Cup journey on a confident note.
