India left-arm spinner Shree Charani has made it clear that personal milestones mean little unless they contribute to the team’s ultimate objective of winning the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Despite climbing to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings and rewriting India’s record books during the ongoing tournament, the 21-year-old insists her entire focus remains on helping the Women in Blue lift the trophy.

Charani continued her outstanding run with another match-winning spell against Bangladesh at Old Trafford, where she etched her name into Indian cricket history. The young spinner dismissed Shorna Akter in the final over of the innings to claim her 11th wicket of the tournament, surpassing Poonam Yadav’s previous record of 10 wickets in a single Women’s T20 World Cup edition, set in 2020. It was another landmark achievement in what has been a breakthrough tournament for the rising star.
However, Charani was quick to shift the attention away from her personal success. Speaking to JioStar after the match, she said individual rankings and records are secondary while India remain in contention for the World Cup title.

“Right now, my entire focus is on the World Cup. We are still in the middle of the tournament, and that’s all that matters. Becoming the No. 1 ranked T20I bowler is special, but it’s not something I’m thinking about. My job is to bowl well, follow my plans and help India win matches. If I keep doing that, the individual rewards will naturally follow,” Shree Charani said.
Reflecting on her impressive spell against Bangladesh, the left-arm spinner credited disciplined execution rather than extraordinary deliveries for her success. She explained that sticking to the basics, maintaining consistent line and length, and trusting the conditions allowed her to extract maximum assistance from the surface.

“I kept things simple and focused on the areas I had practiced. I didn’t try to do anything different. The pitch offered a little help, so I trusted my variations and let the conditions work in my favour,” she added.
India now face Australia in a crucial group-stage clash that could determine the final standings. Despite the significance of the encounter, Charani believes the team must avoid unnecessary pressure and continue following the process that has served them well throughout the tournament.

“We know Australia will be a tough challenge, but our approach won’t change. We have played against them before and understand what they bring. It’s about executing our skills, staying calm and taking one game at a time. That’s been our mindset from the beginning, and we’ll stick with it,” Shree Charani concluded.
