England fast bowler Jofra Archer believes bowling in home conditions is a welcome return to “normal” after spending months adapting to the batting-friendly pitches and shorter boundaries in India during the IPL. Archer made the remarks after producing a match-winning spell in England’s dominant 125-run victory over India in the third T20I at Trent Bridge.

The express pacer starred with figures of 3/29, while Josh Tongue chipped in with 4/38 as England bundled India out for just 76 in 11.4 overs while defending 201. The crushing defeat was India’s biggest loss by runs in T20I history and handed England an unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Speaking after the game, Jofra Archer explained that bowling in England offers seamers a greater margin for error compared to the high-scoring conditions commonly seen in the IPL. “I think it goes back to normal here. You try to bowl the ball straight on a good length. Whereas over there, because the wickets are so easy and the boundaries are so small, you have to be really, really particular. Here, I feel your margin for error is a little bit bigger,” Archer said.

The England quick added that the conditions at Trent Bridge made a 200-plus total far more competitive than it would have been in the IPL. “At the IPL, sometimes 200 isn’t safe. With 200 on the board on that wicket, I felt it would have taken a really special innings to chase it down. I’m just glad everybody chipped in. Everybody who bowled got wickets today, so it was a complete bowling performance,” he added.

England’s pace attack once again exposed India’s batting frailties. Archer and the towering Josh Tongue consistently clocked over 144 kmph while extracting extra bounce to dismantle the visitors’ batting order. Together, they claimed seven wickets and never allowed India to recover after the early collapse.

However, Jofra Archer insisted that discipline, rather than sheer pace, was the biggest reason behind England’s success. “I don’t think it was that pacey, to be honest. We both bowled well in Manchester too but didn’t get the wickets. Today, things went our way. There was a strong wind as well, so I didn’t really feel it was coming out any quicker,” he explained.

Another major talking point was Archer’s growing rivalry with Rajasthan Royals teammate Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The teenage opener had announced himself by smashing Archer for a first-ball six on his T20I debut in Manchester before hitting another maximum off the pacer in Nottingham. Archer responded with a sharp 145 kmph bouncer that forced Sooryavanshi into a glove behind, dismissing him for 13.

Asked about the battle, Jofra Archer smiled and suggested the contest was perfectly balanced. “Well yeah, I think it’s even now. But we’ve got another two games left and it could go either way, so may the best man win,” he said.

Archer also praised Phil Salt’s mature innings of 70 off 44 balls, highlighting how the opener resisted the temptation to attack too early before accelerating brilliantly.

“Knowing Phil, he would have liked to get going from the start. I’m glad he stayed patient because once he settled, the runs came naturally. Hopefully, he can carry that momentum into the remaining matches,” Jofra Archer concluded. England will now look to wrap up the series in the fourth T20I in Bristol, while India must win to keep their hopes alive before the final match in Southampton.
