MS Dhoni once again proved that his popularity remains unmatched after stealing the spotlight during India’s third T20I against England at Trent Bridge. While Shreyas Iyer’s side endured a crushing 125-run defeat, it was Dhoni’s appearance on his 45th birthday that became the biggest talking point among fans at the stadium and on social media.

The former India captain received a thunderous welcome as he arrived at Trent Bridge to watch the match. Thousands of supporters greeted the legendary wicketkeeper-batter with loud cheers, and Dhoni acknowledged the love by waving to the crowd. However, one light-hearted gesture from the cricket icon quickly went viral across social media platforms.
In a widely shared video on X, Dhoni was seen smiling and signalling towards the fans that he had grown older and would now find it difficult to run between the wickets if he were to bat. The humorous moment drew massive appreciation from fans, who flooded social media with reactions and birthday wishes for the former Chennai Super Kings skipper.

The celebrations did not stop there. After the match, Dhoni was surrounded by hundreds of supporters while leaving the stadium. Escorted by security personnel, he patiently made his way through the crowd as chants of “Dhoni, Dhoni” echoed around Trent Bridge, highlighting his enduring fan following despite retiring from international cricket in 2020.

Although Dhoni’s visit thrilled Indian supporters, the on-field result was one to forget. India were bowled out for just 76 while chasing 202, suffering their biggest-ever defeat by runs in T20I cricket.
Dhoni, who celebrated his 45th birthday on Tuesday, had been expected to return to competitive cricket in IPL 2026. However, fitness concerns kept him out of action, and there is still no official confirmation on whether he will represent Chennai Super Kings next season.
