Former India captain Rohit Sharma has touched down in London ahead of the three-match ODI series against England and has already begun his preparations well before the rest of the squad joins him. According to a report by TimesofIndia.com, the veteran opener has taken part in multiple training sessions with close friends and local club bowlers as he builds toward the series opener at Edgbaston in Birmingham on July 14.

The ODI leg of the tour will then move to Cardiff and Lord’s over the following days. The early arrival in England appears to be a deliberate move from Rohit, who wants more time to settle into the conditions before facing a strong England attack. Training on local club wickets is expected to help him adjust to the movement and rhythm that often define white-ball cricket in England.

With the tour beginning just days after India’s ongoing T20I action, Rohit’s decision to get in extra work underlines how seriously he is treating the ODI assignment.

Rohit’s buildup also comes on the back of encouraging signs with the bat. In India’s recent home ODI series against Afghanistan, he scored 16, 48 and 79, finishing as one of the standout performers in a 3-0 clean sweep for India. His fluent 79 in Chennai was particularly important, as it showed that he was moving freely again after an injury-hit spell earlier in the year.

The right-handed opener has long enjoyed success against England and in English conditions, which is why his presence adds so much value to India’s ODI setup. He has delivered some of his most memorable knocks on English soil, including an unbeaten 137 at Trent Bridge in 2018, and later a superb 119 in the 2025 ODI series against England. Those innings strengthened Rohit’s reputation as one of the most reliable visiting batters in the country.

For India, Rohit’s form and experience could be decisive in a series that will test both timing and temperament. His early arrival in London, extra net sessions and proven record in England suggest that the former skipper is leaving nothing to chance as he gears up for another big assignment.
