England produced a batting masterclass in the fifth and final T20I against India at Southampton, piling up a massive 257/3 in 20 overs to leave the visitors staring at another heavy defeat. Jos Buttler and Harry Brook dismantled India’s bowling attack with a record-breaking partnership, while frustrated fans vented their anger on social media over the team’s disappointing performance.

India made the perfect start when Prasidh Krishna dismissed Phil Salt for just six runs in the second over. However, that proved to be the visitors’ only major success for most of the innings as Buttler and Brook took complete control of the contest.

Jos Buttler was at his destructive best, smashing an unbeaten 131 off just 64 deliveries, while England captain Harry Brook provided excellent support with an unbeaten 95 from only 45 balls. The pair stitched together a stunning 233-run stand for the second wicket in just 102 deliveries, leaving the Indian bowlers with no answers.

India’s struggles were further compounded by poor discipline, as the bowlers leaked 18 extras, including 15 wides. The lack of accuracy and ineffective bowling plans quickly became a talking point, with fans criticizing the team’s execution and overall strategy.

One fan wrote on X, “Take Bumrah and Arshdeep out, and this Indian bowling attack is completely toothless. Every other bowler has looked average throughout the England and Ireland series.” Another supporter questioned the team’s tactics, posting, “Head coach and bowling coach—what’s the plan? There was no consistent attack on the stumps for most of the innings. India deserves much better.”

With India already trailing 0-3 in the series, the visitors now face the daunting task of chasing 258 to avoid a series whitewash and finish the tour on a positive note.

Several Indian bowlers endured a forgettable outing. Axar Patel conceded 63 runs in his four overs without taking a wicket, while debutant Prince Yadav also went wicketless after giving away 60 runs. Suryansh Shedge leaked 39 runs from his three overs, and although Shivam Dube claimed two late wickets, he conceded 22 runs in the 19th over.

Prasidh Krishna (1/38) and Arshdeep Singh (0/33) were the only bowlers to maintain some control on a difficult evening.

England’s 257/3 is now the highest T20I total ever scored against India, surpassing the previous record of 246/7, also set by England earlier this year. The record-breaking innings highlighted England’s dominance and exposed India’s bowling concerns ahead of the upcoming ODI series.
