While the chatter is going around Rohit Sharma’s retirement and Sunday’s ODI against England at Lord’s is going to be his last international match, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that “no such discussion” has taken place as well.

“There are lot of speculations going on in media about Rohit Sharma’s future. I want to firmly assert that there has been no such discussion that Rohit will be playing his last match at Lord’s on Sunday,” Saikia said in a statement to the media.

However, the BCCI secretary asked to stop the speculation surrounding the star India opener’s retirement now, but he made it clear that Rohit Sharma remains part of India’s ODI plans.

“Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team and he will continue to represent the country as long as he is in the scheme of things. In other words, Lord’s ODI won’t be his last match,” Saikia further added.

However, the clarification comes amid growing questions over Rohit’s ODI future after a poor show in the ongoing England series and with India beginning to look ahead to the 2027 World Cup. Meanwhile, Cricbuzz had earlier reported that discussions over Rohit Sharma’s future took place some time ago between the selectors, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and the opener, who has consistently shared his desire to play in the next World Cup as well.
