Former India player turned commentator Aakash Chopra has said that Shubman Gill would be in focus in the third ODI against England. He added that the Indian captain hasn’t won an ODI series against a top team yet and would want to win this time around. However, India and England are currently tied 1-1 in the three-match ODI series, with India winning the first game and England levelling in the second. The series decider will take place at Lord’s on Sunday, July 19 as well.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra,’ he said, “The focus will be on Shubman Gill because the year has been excellent, his performance against England has been excellent, but it’s also true that, as a captain, he hasn’t won an ODI series against a top team yet. He has won only against Afghanistan. I know it counts, but it doesn’t count. Let’s be honest.”

“If you have lost against Australia and New Zealand, this is the one that you need to win, and for that he will have to score runs because he is in incredible form. The way Shubman is batting, you expect him to play long, just like he played in the first match and was playing in the second match. You want him to finish this series on a high,” he added.

However, Aakash Chopra also stated that India have a fifth-bowler concern, stating that they haven’t been able to use Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube effectively.

“India have a fifth-bowler problem. That is also something that is getting highlighted repeatedly. They don’t get Washi to bowl, and if they do, they give him four overs. You make Shivam Dube bowl, but don’t make him bat. I feel there won’t be many changes in the team. You will play the same way you played earlier, but somehow you will have to trust Washington Sundar’s bowling a little more because you are not playing him as a batter, and if you are not going to make Shivam Dube bat up the order, you are not playing him as a bowler. So that is one question the Indian team will have to address,” Aakash Chopra concluded.
