Former India pace bowler Zaheer Khan said that speculations must not be taken seriously about Rohit Sharma’s probable
retirement after the upcoming third ODI against England. After his poor outing in Cardiff recently, reports came that Rohit is no longer in the team management’s plans for the ODI World Cup 2027 as well. However, according to a report by the Indian Express, the team management reportedly informed Rohit Sharma that they are prepared to move on from him. Meanwhile, the BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia responded on the rumors, while assuring Rohit Sharma will not retire.

“There are lot of speculations going on in media about Rohit Sharma’s future. I want to firmly assert that there has been no such discussion that Rohit will be playing his last match at Lord’s on Sunday,” Saikia said (via Cricbuzz). “Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team and he will continue to represent the country as long as he is in the scheme of things. In other words, Lord’s ODI won’t be his last match,” he added.

“There will be a lot of interest in this game; there will be a lot of curiosity as well. The atmosphere is being created for Rohit as well, it might be that the curiosity increases even more. You should never go by speculations; there is no doubt about that. They will see the decider like a decider, and play like that,” Zaheer Khan said on Cricbuzz.

Former India batter Mohammad Kaif also said that Rohit Sharma is far from a newcomer who would need a coach’s intervention after a few poor innings.

“Whether there is clarity or not from the team management, Rohit Sharma is not some young man of today, he has been playing for such a long time. There is no need for coaches to tell Rohit Sharma how to play, he is going to play his game,” he said.
