Former India captain Rohit Sharma paid a heartfelt tribute to outgoing India fielding coach T Dilip after the latter’s five-year stint with the national team came to an end. Taking to Instagram Stories on Monday (August 3), Rohit thanked Dilip for his immense contribution behind the scenes and acknowledged the role he played in building a strong team environment during one of India’s most successful periods in international cricket.
T Dilip’s contract as India’s fielding coach concluded following the team’s recent white-ball tour of England. Having joined the Indian setup in 2021 as the successor to R Sridhar, Dilip worked closely with multiple captains, including Rohit Sharma, and became an integral part of the support staff under both Rahul Dravid and Gautam Gambhir.
Sharing a picture with Dilip on Instagram, Rohit expressed his gratitude and praised the former fielding coach for his dedication to the team. “You’re a legend, Dilip garu. You created magic within the group and were a behind-the-scenes workhorse. Best wishes ahead,” Rohit wrote.

During his tenure, Dilip played a key role in improving India’s fielding standards and fostering a positive dressing-room culture. One of his most celebrated initiatives was the introduction of the ‘Best Fielder Medal,’ which became a popular post-match tradition during the 2023 ODI World Cup and continued to motivate players by recognizing outstanding fielding performances.

His time with Team India coincided with a highly successful phase, as the Men in Blue lifted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup titles in 2024 and 2026, the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, and the Asia Cup in both 2023 and 2025. India also finished runners-up in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship during his tenure.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has appointed experienced coach Subhadeep Ghosh as India’s new fielding coach. Ghosh will begin his tenure during the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which starts on August 15 in Galle.

Earlier on Monday, Dilip also shared an emotional farewell message on Instagram, reflecting on his memorable journey with the national team. He thanked the BCCI, former head coach Rahul Dravid, current head coach Gautam Gambhir, and the captains he worked alongside, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer.
The outgoing fielding coach said he would always cherish the relationships he built and the unforgettable moments he experienced while wearing the India badge. Calling the five-year journey an honour, Dilip expressed gratitude to every player, coach, and support staff member, adding that although one chapter had ended, his journey in cricket would continue with the memories of Team India remaining close to his heart forever.
