India head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly come under fresh scrutiny following a mixed run of results across formats, with a recent report claiming that some senior members of the Indian cricket team are unhappy with certain aspects of his coaching approach. According to a report by Cric Blogger, a few experienced Indian players have privately shared their concerns about Gambhir’s coaching style with former India cricketers and members of the BCCI Apex Council.

The report, however, clarified that these conversations have remained informal, and no official complaint has been submitted against the former opener. The report further suggested that Gambhir’s perceived reluctance to shoulder responsibility after defeats has also raised eyebrows within sections of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), adding to the scrutiny surrounding his tenure as head coach.
“It is understood that some senior players have privately conveyed their reservations about Gambhir’s coaching style to former India cricketers as well as members of the BCCI Apex Council,” the report stated. “While these discussions remain informal, they have added to the scrutiny surrounding the head coach.”

Gambhir’s Test coaching stint has produced mixed results so far. India suffered a historic 0-3 home series defeat against New Zealand in 2024, followed by a 0-2 home loss to South Africa. However, the team bounced back to secure a hard-fought 2-2 drawn series in England, offering some encouragement ahead of the challenging Sri Lanka tour.
