India batter Sarfaraz Khan has once again grabbed attention on social media after sharing a cryptic post amid his prolonged absence from the national team. The Mumbai batter has been waiting for another opportunity in India’s senior setup, despite maintaining an impressive record in domestic cricket.
Sarfaraz has an outstanding first-class record, averaging 64.73 in 62 matches. However, he has played only six Tests for India so far, with his most recent appearance coming during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
His last Test outing ended with scores of 0 and 4 as India suffered a 1-4 series defeat. Sarfaraz subsequently lost his place in the playing XI and has not featured for the national team since.

On Thursday, Sarfaraz shared a picture from the 2019 Telugu film Jersey on social media, accompanied by the caption: “I may not fit in, but I will fight with everything I have got.” The post quickly attracted attention, with fans interpreting it as a possible indication of his determination to earn another India call-up.

Sarfaraz had enjoyed a memorable outing against New Zealand, scoring a brilliant 150 in the first Test. However, he struggled to maintain that form during the remainder of the series, registering a highest score of only 11 as India suffered a 0-3 home-series whitewash.
Although he remained around the national setup for some time, Sarfaraz was overlooked for the Test series against South Africa, which India eventually lost 0-2.

India are currently preparing for their upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka. The team is playing a three-day warm-up match in Colombo before the opening Test begins in Galle on August 15. The second Test will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
Meanwhile, Sarfaraz last featured in IPL 2026 for Chennai Super Kings, scoring 161 runs in seven matches at an average of 23 and a strike rate of 169.47. He will now represent West Zone in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, providing another opportunity to make a strong case for his return to India’s Test setup.
