Team India suffered an early setback in their three-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka Cricket XI as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed without scoring on Day 2 in Colombo. The left-handed batter lasted just two deliveries before returning to the pavilion, leaving India under immediate pressure in their chase.

Jaiswal walked out alongside stand-in captain KL Rahul as India began their reply to Sri Lanka Cricket XI’s imposing first-innings total. The hosts declared at 363/8 after putting together a strong batting performance, with the Colombo surface offering plenty of encouragement to the batters.

There was considerable anticipation surrounding Jaiswal’s innings, given the important role he is expected to play during India’s upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka. The young opener has established himself as one of India’s most promising red-ball batters and has produced several impressive performances since making his international debut.

Jaiswal’s two-ball duck was certainly not the start he would have wanted ahead of the Test series.

The practice match is particularly important for India as they look to acclimatise to Sri Lankan conditions. The visitors are currently fifth in the World Test Championship standings and need a strong result in the two-match series to improve their position and keep their qualification hopes alive.
