India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal wasted no time in addressing his early dismissal after being bowled out for a two-ball duck against Sri Lanka Cricket XI in the ongoing three-day warm-up match in Colombo. The left-handed batter reportedly spent nearly an hour in the practice nets, working on his batting ahead of the crucial two-Test series against Sri Lanka.
The practice game is India’s only warm-up fixture before the Test series begins on August 15. After Sri Lanka Cricket XI declared their first innings at 363/8, India suffered an early setback when Jaiswal was dismissed in the opening over.
According to Sports Now journalist Ankan Kar, Jaiswal immediately returned to the nets following his dismissal. The opener worked with members of India’s support staff as he looked to regain his rhythm and confidence before the first Test in Galle.

Jaiswal’s dismissal came on only the second delivery of India’s innings. Sri Lanka Cricket XI left-arm pacer Vishwa Fernando bowled a full delivery outside off stump, tempting Jaiswal into an aggressive cut. The batter failed to make proper contact, with the ball taking a thick outside edge towards backward point.
Dilum Sudeera completed an excellent diving catch to send Jaiswal back to the pavilion without scoring. The young opener appeared disappointed with his shot and quickly turned his attention towards improving his technique in the nets.

The dismissal came at a time when Jaiswal is looking to rediscover his best form in Test cricket. In his last five Test innings against South Africa, he recorded scores of 12, 0, 58, 13 and 24. However, his record in Asian conditions remains impressive, with 1,417 runs from 15 Tests at an average of 54.40, including three centuries and eight fifties.
With India needing crucial World Test Championship points, Jaiswal’s contribution at the top of the order could prove vital. The Sri Lanka series offers him an ideal opportunity to regain momentum and provide India with strong starts.

Following Jaiswal’s dismissal, KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal steadied India’s innings with a 96-run partnership. Rahul scored 40 off 67 balls, while Padikkal continued confidently and completed a century. He eventually retired out for 103 off 121 deliveries, including 14 boundaries. India then lost Rishabh Pant for two and Dhruv Jurel for one. After 50 overs, India were 180/5, with Ravindra Jadeja and Manav Suthar at the crease.
