Star India batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has caught attention on social media after sharing a brief Instagram post ahead of the upcoming domestic season. The 15-year-old posted a video from a net session as he prepares for the Duleep Trophy, where he has been named East Zone’s vice-captain. Sooryavanshi shared footage of himself working on a range of shots, including both defensive techniques and attacking strokes. He captioned the post simply, “Preparation On,” reflecting his focus ahead of an important assignment.
The Duleep Trophy represents another significant opportunity in the youngster’s rapidly developing career. Sooryavanshi will serve as East Zone’s vice-captain, with experienced wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan appointed as the team’s captain. East Zone selector Pravanjan Mullick clarified that Sooryavanshi’s leadership role does not mean he will captain the side.
“He hasn’t been made the captain. He has only been made the vice-captain. The captain is Ishan Kishan. Besides, Ishan is a wicketkeeper, so he will be involved throughout the day,” Mullick told Cricbuzz.

The selectors also considered Sooryavanshi’s previous experience in leadership roles before handing him the responsibility. The teenager has served as Bihar’s vice-captain in first-class cricket and was also part of India’s leadership group during the Under-19 World Cup campaign.
Mullick believes the Duleep Trophy will provide Sooryavanshi with valuable experience as he continues his transition into senior-level cricket.

“This is a great opportunity for him to take on the responsibility of being vice-captain in the Duleep Trophy. He wants to do well for the country and we believe giving young cricketers responsibility is important,” he said.
Sooryavanshi has also shifted his attention towards red-ball cricket after returning from India’s Zimbabwe tour in July. The teenage batter has reportedly been spending significant time at the Rajasthan Royals Academy in Talegaon, near Nagpur, working on his skills for the longer format.

The facility serves as Rajasthan Royals’ own high-performance setup, where Sooryavanshi and several of his franchise teammates have been preparing for multi-day cricket. With the Duleep Trophy marking an important part of the domestic season, Sooryavanshi will have another opportunity to showcase his batting ability, develop his leadership skills and gain valuable experience in red-ball cricket.
