Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has quickly become one of the biggest talking points in world cricket, with the 15-year-old batting sensation continuing to rewrite records at an extraordinary pace. From his IPL debut to his emergence on the international stage, the teenager has already earned comparisons with some of the game’s most exciting young talents.

Words such as “prodigy”, “boy wonder” and “future of Indian cricket” have become increasingly common when describing Sooryavanshi. His rise has been remarkable, particularly considering that he made his IPL debut at just 14 and immediately announced himself by hitting a six off the first ball he faced.

Since then, the left-handed batter has continued to produce eye-catching performances. Sooryavanshi has become the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket, the youngest player to represent India in international cricket, and the youngest half-centurion in men’s T20Is. He has also become the fastest Indian to score an IPL century and the youngest-ever winner of the IPL Orange Cap.

What makes his rise even more remarkable is the fearlessness he has displayed against some of the best bowlers in the world. Sooryavanshi has shown little hesitation in taking on established names such as Jasprit Bumrah and Pat Cummins, even clearing the boundary against elite bowling attacks with remarkable confidence.

His performances have also changed the way opposition bowlers approach him. Some experienced players have celebrated intensely after dismissing him, highlighting the impact the teenager can have on a game.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh believes Sooryavanshi is a rare talent and admitted that he has never seen a player dominate international-level bowlers at such a young age. “Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is extraordinary. He is a unique player. I have not seen a player like him before, one who can dominate the world at 14-15 years of age,” Harbhajan told PTI.

According to Harbhajan, Sooryavanshi’s attacking approach creates a difficult challenge for bowlers. Instead of becoming defensive, he believes opponents should take the game directly to the youngster and look for opportunities to dismiss him.

Harbhajan Singh acknowledged that such an approach could backfire, especially against a batter capable of hitting sixes consistently. However, he believes accepting that risk is preferable to allowing Sooryavanshi to dictate the contest.  “If I bowl to escape, I won’t be able to get him out. You go at him and you take his wicket,” Harbhajan explained.

The former Indian spinner also revealed that he would focus on his own bowling plans rather than constantly changing his field according to Sooryavanshi’s attacking instincts.

For Harbhajan, the key is maintaining an attacking mindset. Sooryavanshi may punish bowlers on some occasions, but the challenge is to keep searching for ways to dismiss him rather than allowing his reputation to influence their approach.
