Delhi Capitals and Bengal cricketer Abishek Porel has been denied bail in a case involving serious allegations made by a medical student. A court on Friday remanded Porel to judicial custody for 14 days following his arrest in connection with the case. Porel was arrested in Hooghly after being questioned by police over a complaint filed by the woman, who has accused the cricketer of rape, blackmail, and other offences. He was taken into custody on August 11 and subsequently arrested after the authorities continued their investigation.

The cricketer underwent a medical examination before being produced before the Chinsurah court. Hooghly (Rural) Superintendent of Police Kunar Bhushan Singh had earlier confirmed that a case had been registered against Porel and that a court order had been issued for his arrest.

According to the complaint, the woman alleged that Porel entered into a relationship with her after promising to marry her. She further alleged that after their relationship broke down, he threatened to circulate objectionable photographs.

The case has been registered under multiple sections, including several non-bailable offences. The allegations also relate to an incident in Delhi on April 2, 2026, when the complainant claimed that she was illegally confined, denied food, and deliberately isolated.

According to the FIR, the woman became physically weak during the alleged incident and was unable to walk properly. She also claimed that the two families had discussed marriage before the relationship deteriorated after she allegedly discovered Porel’s involvement with other women.

The matter had previously reached the Calcutta High Court. Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya directed Magra Police Station to seize electronic devices, including Porel’s mobile phone, and submit a report on the investigation.
