Rishabh Pant provided a hilarious moment during India’s bowling innings on Day 3 of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, responding to a light-hearted comment about veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter’s witty remark quickly caught attention as Kuldeep Yadav prepared to bowl. The incident occurred while Pant was getting ready behind the stumps, putting on his helmet and adjusting his gloves.

As Jadeja was involved in the conversation, a teammate was heard saying, “Abhi lamba game hai Jaddu bhai, milbaat ke khaayenge,” suggesting that there was still plenty of time to share the wickets around. Rishabh Pant instantly joined the banter with his trademark humour. While taking his position behind the stumps, he replied, “Aur sab talvaar chalayenge,” referring to Jadeja’s iconic sword celebration.

The celebration has become synonymous with the Indian all-rounder, who famously performs the sword-swinging gesture after reaching major batting milestones such as a half-century or century. Pant’s clever reference left the moment even more entertaining for viewers.

India entered the Test after posting a commanding 462 in their first innings. Their bowlers then backed up the batting effort with an impressive start, reducing Sri Lanka to 90/5 as the hosts struggled to cope with the pressure.

Pant, meanwhile, is closing in on several significant milestones during the two-match series. He scored 39 off 62 deliveries in India’s first innings, hitting four boundaries and a six. The left-hander now needs only two more sixes to become the first Indian batter to hit 100 sixes in Test cricket. Overall, he would become only the fourth batter in Test history to reach the landmark.

Pant is also approaching a major World Test Championship milestone. He began the series needing 220 runs to become the first Indian to score 3,000 runs in the WTC. Following his 39-run contribution, he is now 181 runs away from the landmark. Achieving it would also make him the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to reach 3,000 WTC runs.

The wicketkeeper could create another piece of history if he scores a century later in the series. Pant would become the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to register a Test hundred in Sri Lanka. After missing out on a bigger score in the first innings, he will be keen to make his opportunity count next time.
