Despite India’s commanding 165-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle, the team management could make at least one change to the playing XI for the second and final Test in Colombo. Kuldeep Yadav is reportedly in danger of being dropped after an underwhelming outing with the ball, with India looking to seal a series sweep.

If Kuldeep is left out, Saransh Jain could make his international debut at the Sinhalese Sports Club. The Madhya Pradesh all-rounder, who primarily bowls off-spin, earned his maiden India call-up after consistent performances in domestic cricket.

Kuldeep endured a difficult outing in Galle, bowling 25 overs and taking only one wicket while conceding 103 runs. In contrast, Manav Suthar delivered a match-winning performance in just his second Test, finishing with 10 wickets to play a major role in India’s victory.

Ravindra Jadeja also contributed four wickets, leaving Kuldeep as the least effective of India’s three left-arm spin options in the opening Test. According to reports, this could prompt the management to bring in Saransh Jain for the Colombo Test.

Saransh’s selection comes after several productive seasons for Madhya Pradesh. The 31-year-old made his first-class debut in 2014 and has taken 188 wickets in 54 matches at an average of 27.30. He has also contributed 2,223 runs with the bat, including two centuries and 14 half-centuries.

The all-rounder enjoyed an especially impressive 2025-26 Ranji Trophy campaign. He claimed 30 wickets, finishing second among Madhya Pradesh’s leading wicket-takers behind Kumar Kartikeya, who took 35. Saransh Jain was even more influential with the bat, scoring 518 runs at an average of 57.55 in seven matches.

His performances for India A against Sri Lanka A further strengthened his case for international selection. Saransh Jain took one wicket in the first unofficial Test before producing a standout performance in the second match. He claimed six wickets and remained unbeaten on 70.

With Sri Lanka expected to field several left-handed batters, an off-spinner could offer India a tactical advantage. The second Test therefore presents Saransh with a potential opportunity to make his international debut, while Kuldeep’s place in the XI remains one of the major selection talking points ahead of the Colombo Test.
