Former CSK star Subramaniam Badrinath commented on a possible combination headache for Team India going forward amid the Test series against Sri Lanka. India beat the hosts by 165 runs in the first Test at Galle. However, Sai Sudharsan was ruled out of the series due to an injury, and Devdutt Padikkal replaced him in the playing XI, grabbing the opportunity
with both hands by scoring a stunning century. He scored 167 runs in the first innings and also scored 44 runs in the second innings as well.

“Why will you drop Dhruv Jurel? When he has been given the chance, he has not done anything wrong. You should not drop him. He has scored runs. Why should you drop him for Sudharsan to come back? When Sudharsan went out due to injury, Padikkal came in for him. Now, if Sai is fit, dropping Jurel or him does not make sense,” he said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“Cricket is a very harsh game for a player in India. Sudharsan also did nothing wrong as such, but he got injured. He was in good form. But now Devdutt came and scored runs. I think justice for any player is very difficult. This is the reality in a competitive country like India,” he again said.

However, he applauded Devdutt Padikkal after the first Test between Sri Lanka and India at Galle as well. India won by 165 runs and went 1-0 up as well.
“Multi-format players are very rare in this era. There are not many a lot actually and he is one of the few. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, Sachin- these were all multi-format players. Devdutt also ticks that box. Padikkal is impressing me day by day. Why I say this is because by performances in first-class cricket, he has earned his place. He already played a Test, failed, and was dropped. It is not easy to come back into the Indian team. He has literally earned his place rightfully so,” he concluded.
