Hardik Pandya’s future with Mumbai Indians has become a major talking point ahead of the IPL 2027 season, with reports suggesting that the five-time champions could explore trade options involving their captain. While there has been no official confirmation from the franchise, a recent social media post featuring Pandya has added another layer to the speculation. Mumbai Indians recently shared three pictures of Pandya wearing the team jersey on their official social media account.

The post carried the caption, “Memo: Make it HP coded,” and quickly caught the attention of fans amid ongoing discussions about his future. Pandya returned to Mumbai Indians through a trade ahead of the 2024 IPL season and was immediately handed the captaincy, replacing long-time skipper Rohit Sharma. However, his tenure as captain has not produced the desired results so far. Mumbai finished at the bottom of the table in 2024, bounced back to reach Qualifier 2 in 2025, but struggled again in 2026, finishing ninth.
The 2026 season was particularly difficult for Pandya. He played only 10 matches after missing four games due to illness and injury. With the bat, he scored 206 runs at an average of 22.88 and a strike rate of 138.25. His highest score was 40, and he failed to register a half-century during the campaign.

His bowling numbers were also below expectations. Pandya picked up only four wickets while averaging 64.75 and conceding runs at an economy rate of 11.43. His limited contribution with the ball further affected Mumbai’s balance throughout the season.
Mumbai Indians managed only four wins from 14 league matches in IPL 2026 and missed out on the playoffs after making it to Qualifier 2 the previous year. The disappointing campaign has reportedly prompted discussions about potential changes ahead of the 2027 season, with Pandya’s position among the key issues being considered.

Pandya has a long-standing association with Mumbai Indians. He made his IPL debut for the franchise in 2015 and played a crucial role in their successful campaigns before leaving in 2021. He subsequently joined Gujarat Titans ahead of their inaugural 2022 season and led them to the title in their first year.
Under Pandya, Gujarat also reached the IPL final in 2023 before he returned to Mumbai Indians through a trade. The franchise then made him captain, ending Rohit Sharma’s leadership stint.

Despite recent struggles, Pandya remains one of the most experienced all-rounders in IPL history. Across 162 matches, he has scored 2,955 runs at an average of 27.88 and a strike rate of 146.29. He has also taken 82 wickets at an average of 33.55 and an economy rate of 9.36.
As captain, Pandya has recorded 36 wins and 25 defeats in 61 IPL matches. With IPL 2027 still ahead, Mumbai’s recent social media activity suggests continued support, but his long-term future with the franchise remains a subject of intense speculation.
