The Indian Mixed Disability Cricket Team produced a memorable performance at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Wednesday, defeating England by 118 runs in a dominant T20 contest. The victory sparked emotional celebrations at the iconic venue, with members of the Indian contingent recreating a moment famously associated with former India captain Sourav Ganguly. After the win, one member of the Indian team removed his blazer while another took off his shirt as they celebrated from the Lord’s balcony.

The scenes immediately brought back memories of Ganguly’s famous shirt-waving celebration at the same venue in 2002. Sourav Ganguly had famously removed his shirt and waved it from the Lord’s balcony after India completed a remarkable chase against England in the NatWest Trophy final. India had successfully chased down 326 with three balls to spare, producing one of the most memorable victories in the team’s ODI history.

The Indian Mixed Disability Team put together an equally impressive performance on Wednesday. Batting first, they posted a massive 206/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Arjun Gawre led the scoring with a brilliant 68 off 44 deliveries, while captain Majid Magray provided an explosive finish with an unbeaten 63 from just 19 balls. Opener Sai Akash also made a valuable contribution, scoring 48 off 38 deliveries to give India a strong platform.

England struggled to match India’s batting performance and were eventually bowled out for only 88 in 13.4 overs. Hilal Ahmad Wani was the standout bowler, claiming 4/21 from his four overs. Jayesh Parmar also impressed, taking 3/14 in just two overs.

England opener Jonny Gale top-scored with 19 off 16 balls, while Angus Brown contributed 16 from 11 deliveries. The rest of the batting lineup failed to build a meaningful partnership as India completed a comprehensive 118-run victory.

The celebrations also recalled Ganguly’s unforgettable reaction after the 2002 NatWest Trophy final. India had slipped to 146/5 while chasing 326 and appeared to be heading towards defeat. Ganguly had earlier scored 60 off 43 during a 106-run opening partnership with Virender Sehwag, who made 45.

Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh then changed the course of the chase with a crucial 121-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Kaif remained unbeaten on 87, while Yuvraj scored 69 as India completed the chase with three balls remaining.

Ganguly’s wife, Dona, later admitted that even the former captain felt he probably should not have removed his shirt, but described the celebration as a spontaneous expression of emotion. More than two decades later, the Indian Mixed Disability Team created its own Lord’s moment, adding another memorable chapter to India’s cricketing celebrations at the historic venue.
