Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Saba Karim praised star India batter Dhruv Jurel for his stunning century on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka at Colombo. Coming into bat in their first innings, Jurel scored a brilliant 115* off
177 deliveries. Jurel’s heroics helped India past the 500-run mark and into a commanding position as well. It was his second Test century in his 12th red-ball outing for India as well.

Talking about Jurel’s performance after Day 2 on the Sony Sports Network, Saba Karim said, “Jurel’s knock was the standout in this innings. He is very lucid in his stroke play, which makes him one of the emerging batters at the international level. His understanding of the game is excellent. You can see why a wicketkeeper is playing as a pure batter. His setup is very organized, and there is brevity in his footwork. He has bailed the side out from precarious situations earlier as well, showcasing great composure. He puts a lot of value and price on his wicket and seldom gets out in a manner very unlike the composure that he exudes. ”

Meanwhile, former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar also praised Dhruv Jurel for playing a stunning knock on the second day of the second Test against Sri Lanka. Manjrekar also believes that he should have come into bat ahead of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as well.

“Dhruv Jurel has played a similar innings to Devdutt Padikkal in the first Test. He has been flawless, and I’ve not seen any false shot in his innings. He looks a copybook cricketer and a proper No.5 or 6. I would have sent him before Jadeja because you don’t want to send somebody like Jurel so late that you start running out of partners,” said Manjrekar.

“His partnership with Pant was fun to watch because they are so contrasting. One sticks by the tradition of the game, the way it should be, and Rishabh Pant gets a great high by doing things nobody does. Even in the last Test, Jurel made a crucial contribution, and here again, he has taken the match away from Sri Lanka. I don’t see Sri Lanka competing from here,” he concluded.
