Former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar believes young spinner Manav Suthar wasn’t at his best despite picking up three wickets in the first innings of the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka at Colombo as well. The youngster starred in India’s 165-run victory in the series opener with 10 wickets, including six in the second innings as well. However, Suthar was once again amongst the wickets on Day 3 of the second Test but had an economy of almost four. He finished ith figures of 3/85 in 22 overs as well.

Talking about Manav Suthar’s bowling performance on the Sony Sports Network, Manjrekar said, “He picked up three wickets, but he will know himself that he could have been better. It could have been the pitch or maybe his own accuracy but I found him a lot more impressive as a bowler in Galle. But it still seems like you can’t keep him away from wickets.”

Sanjay Manjrekar also believes debutant off-spinner Saransh Jain bowled at a slower-than-ideal pace, resulting in an ineffective first spell on Day 3 as well. He improved as the day went on but remained wicketless in 18 overs on Day 3 as well.

“He has a slightly different action. It’s not copybook like Manav Suthar, which is not a problem. In his first seven overs, he was bowling in the 70s kph when it seemed like he had a quick arm action, with only a few in the 80s. But right towards the end, with the second new ball and just before that, he got his speed right. He should be allowed to bowl at that speed, and then we can judge him for what he is. Because what we saw him do in the first half was something unnatural to him,” concluded Sanjay Manjrekar.
