Suryakumar Yadav, the former India T20I captain and one of the most destructive batters in the shortest format, has opened up about the influence of Jainism on his personality and mindset. The Indian star revealed that following Jainism over the past year has helped him become calmer and approach life with greater patience and discipline.

Speaking at a recent JITO Premier League event in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Suryakumar discussed how his understanding of the Jain community has evolved. He pointed out that while the community is often associated with business, its values extend far beyond professional success.
“When the name of the Jain community comes up, people often think only of business. But according to me, when the name of the Jain community comes up, the first things that come to mind are patience, discipline, and hard work. The rest is certainly there. Many people do business,” Suryakumar Yadav said at the event.

The India batter further explained that his interactions with members of the Jain community over the last one to one-and-a-half years have had a strong impact on him. He also recalled attending a Jain youth event in Mumbai, where he spoke publicly about following Jainism.
“But the dedication, passion and hard work that I have seen over the last one to one-and-a-half years among all the Jains I have met is a little different. As you heard, I recently said that there was a Jain youth event in Mumbai, where I mentioned that I follow Jainism,” he added.
Suryakumar also revealed that chanting has become an important part of his routine, particularly during high-pressure cricket assignments. He said he regularly chanted the name of Nambra Muni during India’s matches and while representing Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026.

The batter explained that the practice helped him settle his mind and maintain a calmer approach during demanding periods of his cricket career.
“So, all the chanting, like when we play in the IPL, India’s matches, and recently, when I played in the World Cup, I chanted so much with the Nambra Muni of the Jain community during the World Cup and during the IPL. So, there is such a difference. I myself have gone to a completely different level. I have calmed down a lot,” Suryakumar Yadav concluded.
