Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi has issued a clarification after several media reports allegedly misidentified him in coverage of a property dispute involving BDR Builders. Modi stated that he is not the person named in the legal proceedings and claimed that some publications incorrectly used his photograph, biography and personal identity while reporting on the case.

Taking to X, Modi explained that the individual mentioned in the court proceedings is another person named Lalit Modi. He stressed that the court record identifies that individual separately and urged media organisations, search platforms and databases to correct what he described as an identity mix-up.

“FOR THE RECORD. I am NOT the Lalit Modi involved in the Vasant Vihar / BDR Builders property or arbitration case being reported by several media outlets.” Modi further clarified his own identity, stating that he is Lalit Kumar Modi, the founder of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“Some publications have wrongly attached my photograph, biography and identity to another individual’s litigation.” He also highlighted the importance of verifying information before publishing reports involving people with similar names. “Same name. Different person. Get the facts right.”

The clarification came after reports concerning a legal dispute over a property in Vasant Vihar, New Delhi, involving BDR Builders & Developers Pvt. Ltd. The matter reportedly relates to an agreement to sell the property and subsequent arbitration proceedings.

This is not the first time Modi has recently rejected reports linking him to a development in the public domain. Earlier, he denied speculation that he would appear as a contestant on the reality television show Bigg Boss 20. Calling the reports “FAKE NEWS,” Modi stated that he had not been approached to participate in the show and had no intention of appearing on it. “FAKE NEWS. PERIOD. I have NOT been approached for Bigg Boss 20.”

He also said his lawyers had issued a notice over the reports and questioned how an unverified claim could become news without the concerned person being contacted.

Meanwhile, Bigg Boss 20 is set to be hosted by Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The show’s first trailer has already teased a new twist involving contestants receiving an additional ‘jeevan daan’ or lifeline. The reality show is scheduled to premiere on September 6 on JioHotstar and Colors, adding to the anticipation surrounding the upcoming season.
