India captain Shubman Gill and premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah have slipped in the latest ICC Test rankings, while Devdutt Padikkal made significant gains after an impressive tour of Sri Lanka. Gill dropped two places to ninth in the Test batting rankings following a relatively quiet campaign in Sri Lanka. The Indian captain managed only one half-century across three innings. Rishabh Pant remains India’s highest-ranked batter at seventh, while Yashasvi Jaiswal retained his 11th position.
Padikkal, meanwhile, was rewarded for his outstanding performances in the two-Test series. The left-handed batter emerged as India’s leading run-scorer on the Sri Lanka tour, accumulating 328 runs, including two centuries. His consistency helped him climb five places to 54th in the latest ICC rankings.

In the bowling charts, Bumrah slipped one position to third. The Indian pace spearhead was overtaken for second place, with Australia’s Mitchell Starc and New Zealand’s Matt Henry occupying the top two spots.

Bumrah missed India’s Test series against Sri Lanka after suffering a knee impact injury that has kept him sidelined since mid-July. Despite his absence from the red-ball tour, the 32-year-old remains part of India’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in September. However, his participation will depend on receiving fitness clearance.
Sri Lanka also had a notable rise in the rankings, with Sonal Dinusha making a huge 29-place jump to 25th among Test batters. His resilient centuries in the second Test against India at Colombo played a major role in his impressive rise.
