Gujarat Titans batter Shahrukh Khan has praised Shubman Gill’s development as a leader, highlighting the Indian Test and ODI captain’s tactical awareness, ability to read situations, and understanding of his teammates. Shahrukh has shared the Gujarat Titans dressing room with Gill and has closely witnessed the 26-year-old’s progression from an emerging IPL captain to leading the Indian national team. According to the Tamil Nadu batter, many of Gill’s leadership qualities become evident only to those who spend considerable time with him during training sessions and matches.

“Obviously, as a captain, he has grown immensely from captaining Gujarat Titans to captaining the country’s Test side. I don’t have to explain how good a captain he is. Because we saw the series in England, the way he captained, how aggressive he was whenever the team needed him to be,” Shahrukh Khan told news agency IANS.

Gill has taken on significant responsibility at a relatively young age, but Shahrukh believes his ability to constantly assess the game has played a major role in his leadership development. The Gujarat Titans batter also pointed out that Gill often has several tactical options in mind before making an important decision.

“He is somebody who is very tactical. Doesn’t look like much when you see from the outside. But as teammates, when you see him every day at practice and in the game, his mind is constantly running on what to do,” Shahrukh Khan said. According to him, Gill’s biggest strength is the number of possibilities he considers before settling on a decision. “He has got so many options in his head which he more often than not chooses the right thing. And to be playing under him is a pleasure,” he added.

Shahrukh’s comments come after a challenging IPL 2026 campaign. Retained by Gujarat Titans for ₹4 crore, the powerful middle-order batter struggled for consistency and eventually lost his place in the playing XI midway through the season.

His fortunes changed during the Tamil Nadu Premier League, where Shahrukh played an important role in his team’s title-winning campaign. The contrasting experiences have reinforced his belief that T20 cricket is a game of highs and lows, making mental balance crucial for players. “IPL is always the best league in the world. And to be a part of it and to be playing for the last 6-7 years, I feel very fortunate and lucky,” Shahrukh said.

The Tamil Nadu batter acknowledged that his career has included both successful and difficult seasons, but stressed the importance of maintaining perspective through every phase. “As a player, the more you get into sport and you understand the sport, it’s about the highs and the lows. You just can’t be high all the time or low all the time. There has to be a balance in both,” he added.

With the next IPL season approaching, Shahrukh will hope to carry the confidence gained from his TNPL campaign into the Gujarat Titans setup and make a stronger impact in India’s premier T20 competition.
