Former Indian player Sadagoppan Ramesh urged the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to consider India’s wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson as a leading captaincy option as well. CSK have struggled since Ruturaj Gaikwad took over as captain before IPL 2024. CSK have missed the playoffs in the last three IPL seasons and finished eighth with Gaikwad captaining the side throughout the 2026 edition. On the other hand, Samson impressed in his first season with CSK in IPL 2026, scoring 477 runs at an average of 43.36 and a strike rate of 165.62 in 14 games as well.

“CSK are seemingly thinking of many options as captain and even wondering if there is a captaincy change needed. Sanju Samson should be considered as captain because he’s such a fantastic team player. The CSK captaincy must be changed, and if it is, CSK must seriously consider Sanju Samson,” said Sadagoppan Ramesh on his Instagram handle.

Sadagoppan Ramesh also said Sanju Samson’s IPL captaincy record as a reason for CSK to appoint him as their next captain as well. Samson also led Rajasthan Royals (RR) from 2021 to 2025. Under Samson, RR won 33 of their 66 completed matches and finished runners-up in IPL 2022 as well.

“Samson has also captained 66 matches in the IPL and won 33. So he has a 50% success rate. Under him, RR performed well by reaching a final and making another playoff appearance. Of course, CSK need several other things to change, and just making Sanju the captain won’t win them the trophy. But if at all they change captains, Sanju must be strongly considered,” Sadagoppan Ramesh concluded.
