Naman Dhir produced a stunning batting masterclass in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, coming within just two runs of Chris Gayle’s record T20 score. Representing Amritsar Soorma against Mohali Kings, the Mumbai Indians batter smashed a breathtaking 173 off only 64 balls to produce one of the most remarkable knocks in recent domestic T20 cricket.
Dhir’s innings was packed with extraordinary power hitting. He struck 16 fours and 12 sixes, finishing with a staggering strike rate of 270.31. His assault single-handedly propelled Amritsar Soorma to a mammoth 279 in 20 overs after they were asked to bat first.
The right-hander wasted little time finding his rhythm and reached his century in just 37 balls during the 12th over. Rather than slowing down after reaching three figures, Dhir continued attacking the Mohali Kings bowlers and added another 73 runs before eventually being dismissed.

Jashanpreet Singh offered valuable support with a 41-run contribution, but the evening belonged overwhelmingly to Dhir. His 28 boundaries, comprising 16 fours and 12 sixes, accounted for a huge portion of Amritsar’s total and ensured they finished with a formidable 279/20.
Dhir’s innings also placed him just behind Gayle’s iconic T20 record. The former West Indies star remains the highest individual scorer in T20 cricket after hitting an unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India in the IPL in April 2013.
