Jasprit Bumrah has been declared fit and will be available for India’s upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan as well as the 2026 Asian Games. However, India have suffered a setback with fast bowler Harshit Rana ruled out of both assignments following a fresh injury setback. Rana had been progressing well during his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

However, he suffered a rectus femoris strain while bowling during a match simulation on September 7. The injury has forced the selectors to remove him from both squads. The BCCI confirmed that Vidarbha pacer Yash Thakur has been named as Rana’s replacement.

“The Men’s Selection Committee has named Yash Thakur as a replacement for Harshit Rana in India’s squads for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and the 2026 Asian Games,” the BCCI said in an official statement.

Thakur, 27, made his India T20I debut during the tour of Zimbabwe in July. He featured in two matches and claimed four wickets. The Vidarbha pacer has also taken 81 wickets in 50 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy appearances at an economy rate of 7.04.

Bumrah’s return is a major boost for India ahead of two important assignments. He will lead the pace attack alongside Arshdeep Singh and Thakur, while Shreyas Iyer will captain India in both competitions. Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain.
