Former India captain Virat Kohli met Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in London on Friday, where the two discussed sports infrastructure, athlete development, and initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for young talent. According to a statement from Shinde’s office, the Maharashtra leader welcomed Kohli with a traditional shawl and bouquet.

Kohli also congratulated Shinde after the deputy chief minister received three prestigious awards during his visit to the UK. The meeting focused on measures that could improve sports facilities across Maharashtra and create better pathways for athletes capable of representing the state and country at national and international levels.
Shinde highlighted several major infrastructure projects contributing to Maharashtra’s development, including the Samruddhi Expressway, Navi Mumbai International Airport, Coastal Road, Atal Setu and Vadhavan Port. He also discussed plans for a Sports City near Navi Mumbai, which is expected to provide modern training and competition facilities for athletes from different sporting disciplines.

Kohli showed particular interest in initiatives that can provide youngsters with access to quality education while allowing them to pursue professional sports training. Shinde also spoke about the ‘Khelo India’ programme, describing it as an initiative that has encouraged millions of young Indians to explore sports as a potential career.

During the interaction, Virat Kohli reflected on his own cricket journey and reiterated his passion for the game. The former captain also expressed his desire to remain connected with cricket after retirement and contribute to the development of the next generation.
