India women’s cricket team head coach Amol Muzumdar has backed the BCCI’s decision to skip the Asia Cup trophy presentation involving Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi. Muzumdar said the team stands united with the board’s decision and considers the tournament officially completed after being crowned champions.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final in Dubai to win a record-extending eighth Women’s Asia Cup title. Despite the convincing victory, the Indian players did not return to the field for the post-match trophy presentation ceremony.

Muzumdar addressed the decision during the post-match press conference, making it clear that the team was satisfied with winning the tournament regardless of the trophy presentation. “The stand has been taken by BCCI. We stand by it. For us, this tournament is over. We are the champions. That is good enough.”

The head coach also highlighted that the scoreboard had already confirmed India as the 2026 Asia Cup champions, which was the achievement the team valued most. “It was on the big board that India, the champions of the Asia Cup 2026. We are happy that we have turned out to be champions. Now, we look forward to the Asian Games.”

The development follows a similar decision by the Indian men’s team during the previous Asia Cup. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side had also declined to receive the trophy and medals from Naqvi, who is the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Pakistan’s interior minister. The men’s Asia Cup trophy remains with the ACC, while the Indian players celebrated their title on the presentation dais without the trophy.

Muzumdar reiterated that the women’s team was united behind the BCCI’s position and praised the players and support staff for their efforts throughout the tournament. Following the final, the Indian players did not return to the field after BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia presented Nandani Sharma with an in-house Best Fielder medal. India will now shift their focus towards their upcoming Asian Games campaign.
