Former Indian player Kris Srikkanth slammed Afghanistan, calling their veteran spinner Rashid Khan past his prime, after their defeat to Team India in the T20I series opener in Delhi on September 13 as well. Afghanistan struggled in all departments after losing the toss and being asked to bat first. They managed a subpar total of 156/8 in 20 overs on a placid Delhi wicket, before India chased it down in the 14th over with seven wickets in hand. Spinner Rashid Khan conceded 34 runs off 3.4 wicketless overs as well.

Talking about the Afghanistan side after the first T20I against India, Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel, “This win is just killing an already dead snake. Afghanistan is a subpar side. All they do is come to India once every two months and get smashed. They almost willingly ask India to thrash them time and again. They are weak in all departments. Guys like Rashid Khan and Nabi are way past their prime.”

Kris Srikkanth also believes Team India still has issues with their fifth bowling option despite the thumping win over Afghanistan in the opening T20I. While the four specialist bowlers did well, the fifth bowling options of Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abhishek Sharma and Shivam Dube had a poor outing with the ball. The trio conceded a combined 59 runs without taking a wicket off four overs as well.

“The only takeaway from this is Bumrah’s brilliant bowling in his comeback. But India are playing without a sixth bowler. You can get away with it against a terrible side like Afghanistan. But the good thing is India smashed them, as they should have. Because India should have done the same to Ireland but lost to them. That’s why the full team has been selected for this series,” concluded Kris Srikkanth.
