Team India batter Tilak Varma produced another impressive moment in the field during the second T20I against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, September 15. India won the toss and opted to bowl first, and Tilak’s sharp catch at long-off helped the Men in Blue put Afghanistan under further pressure.
The dismissal came on the first delivery of the 15th over, with Arshdeep Singh bowling a full delivery around off-stump that was just short of yorker length. Darwish Rasooli struggled to get underneath the ball and attempted to hit it straight down the ground. However, he only managed to get a thick connection off the toe end of his bat.
The ball travelled towards long-off, where Tilak Varma reacted quickly. The left-hander ran to his right and completed a sharp catch just in front of the boundary ropes. It was an important breakthrough for India, with Rasooli looking increasingly dangerous during his brief stay at the crease.

Rasooli departed after scoring 26 runs from 15 balls, including one four and two sixes, at an impressive strike rate of 173.33. His dismissal left Afghanistan struggling at 100/6, giving India control during the crucial middle phase of the innings.

The catch also added to Tilak Varma’s growing confidence after a productive run of form. He recently captained South Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2026 and finished as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer, scoring 266 runs in three innings, including a century and a fifty.
Tilak also carried strong T20I form into the Afghanistan series after scoring an unbeaten half-century against Zimbabwe. He faced only four deliveries in the first T20I against Afghanistan, remaining unbeaten on three.

The left-hander has established himself as a reliable T20I batter, scoring 1,648 runs in 60 matches at an average of 44.54 and a strike rate of 144.94. He has two centuries and nine half-centuries in the format.
