The next Indian Premier League (IPL) mini auction is reportedly set to return to India after franchises raised concerns about hosting the event overseas. Logistical difficulties associated with international travel and arrangements were among the reasons cited by the teams. The decision was discussed during an IPL Governing Council meeting on Tuesday.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, while the upcoming mini auction is expected to be staged in India, the IPL mega auction could once again be held overseas. The league’s last three auctions were conducted in Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi. Kochi remains the most recent Indian city to host an IPL auction.
The venue for the upcoming mini auction will depend largely on the availability of a suitable five-star property. The event is expected to take place between October and December, a period that coincides with India’s peak wedding season. The BCCI reportedly requires more than 100 rooms to accommodate franchise representatives, officials and other personnel involved in the auction.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) could potentially expand its venue list next season. According to The Times of India, the newly constructed cricket stadium in Varanasi could host WPL matches if it is ready by January 2027.

Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara are also expected to host matches during the 2027 WPL season.
“The BCCI is exploring the possibility of staging matches at Varanasi right now. A BCCI cricket operations team will conduct a recce of the Varanasi stadium and assess whether it is ready or not to stage the tournament.”

Another major decision concerns the Impact Player rule. All IPL franchises have reportedly submitted their feedback, with the IPL Governing Council expected to discuss the matter next month. A final decision is likely to be taken during the October meeting.
