The BCCI has announced India’s ODI squad for the upcoming West Indies series, with the three-match 50-over contest scheduled to begin on September 27. The ODI series will be followed by five T20Is, making it an important period for India’s white-ball setup. The biggest talking point from the squad is the inclusion of Rohit Sharma, whose future in ODI cricket has been the subject of considerable discussion in recent months. Alongside the veteran opener, young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been named in the 15-member squad.

According to reports, the selectors had considered moving on from Rohit during India’s ODI series in England in July. The reported plan was to give Jaiswal regular opportunities and prepare him for the 2027 ODI World Cup, which is around a year away. However, the situation changed following significant public discussion, after which Rohit delivered a memorable 138 at Lord’s.

Pant was overlooked for India’s three-match home ODI series against Afghanistan in June. Prior to that, he had served as Rahul’s backup for nearly two years without getting an opportunity. The left-hander has not played an ODI since August 2024. The wicketkeeper-batter will now captain the Rest of India squad in the Irani Cup against Ranji Trophy champions Jammu & Kashmir.
India’s ODI series against West Indies will begin in Thiruvananthapuram, before moving to Guwahati and Chandigarh. The second ODI will be played on September 30, while the final match is scheduled for October 3.
