India all-rounder Manav Suthar continued his impressive run in red-ball cricket, producing another match-winning performance for Warwickshire in the County Championship. Suthar claimed five wickets against Essex to help his side secure a commanding eight-wicket victory in Division One on Wednesday.

Warwickshire endured a difficult outing with the bat in their first innings, being bowled out for 191. With the match finely balanced, Suthar stepped up with the ball and delivered his second five-wicket haul of the tournament.

The left-arm spinner first removed Essex’s leading run-scorer Paul Walter for 42 before dismissing former South Africa captain Dean Elgar for 29. Those breakthroughs opened the door for Warwickshire, with Suthar continuing to trouble the Essex batting lineup and complete an impressive five-wicket haul.

Suthar finished with figures of 5/75 from 24 overs as Warwickshire bowled Essex out for 189 in their second innings. Set a target of only 133, Warwickshire made a comfortable chase, reaching the required total in the 26th over with eight wickets remaining.

The performance adds to what has been a productive period in Suthar’s red-ball career. He made his India Test debut in the one-off home Test against Afghanistan in June and quickly made an impression at the international level.

He carried that momentum into India’s Test tour of Sri Lanka in August. In the first Test in Galle, Suthar claimed his maiden 10-wicket match haul, including six wickets in the second innings, as India secured a 165-run victory.

His County Championship numbers have also stood out. Suthar has taken 26 wickets in five matches for Warwickshire at an economy rate of 2.79, putting him ahead of New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel, who has claimed 25 wickets in nine matches for Leicestershire at 3.27. Meanwhile, in Division Two, India spinner R Sai Kishore produced a crucial 71 off 131 balls for Gloucestershire against Middlesex, helping his team restrict the first-innings deficit to 30 runs.
