Chennai Super Kings (CSK) newly appointed head coach Zaheer Khan stated that veteran MS Dhoni’s guidance and input will be important as he takes charge of the side for the IPL 2027 season. He takes over the role from Stephen Fleming as the franchise enters a new era amid a tough phase in terms of results. Although MS Dhoni did not feature in the IPL 2026 campaign due to injury, he could take part this season as he has not hung up his boots yet from the IPL.

“It is a settled franchise; it’s been years since a lot of processes are already in place. So, MS’ (Dhoni) guidance, I think, is going to be very crucial. You look at the team management’s vision; that is something that is going to be equally important. It’s a new setup, so there are going to be some learnings,” Zaheer Khan said on Chennai Super Kings’ official YouTube channel.

However, the new head coach applauded CSK’s ability to adapt and stay ahead of the race in the past, but he also feels that they will have to understand and adapt once more as T20 cricket is entering a new era.

“It is about understanding the pressures and the new dynamics of T20. I think the game is evolving, and it is about staying ahead of the curve. When I look back at what CSK have achieved over the years, it is predominantly by staying ahead of the curve, understanding and adapting to different situations. It’s building on that, it’s about evolving with changing times and creating that faith within the whole group to take things forward,” Zaheer Khan concluded.
