Former Indian player turned commentator Ajinkya Rahane lauded veteran India spinner Kuldeep Yadav for his attacking bowling in the ongoing first ODI against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram. Having been in and out of the Indian team
recently, Kuldeep was under pressure to deliver a great spell.

Talking about Kuldeep’s bowling display, Rahane said on Cricbuzz, “He gains confidence only through wickets. It doesn’t matter how many runs he gives. Even if he gives 80 runs off his 10 overs but takes four wickets, his confidence grows. It’s important for him to keep getting wickets from here on as well.”

“I don’t think he did anything differently from the usual. It’s just that the standard of the West Indies batting isn’t up there. If a batter picks him, he’s not as tough. To his credit, he was consistent with his length. But because they were not able to read him, he was a lot more effective,” he added.

Dinesh Karthik, however, said that Kuldeep Yadav should be India’s first-choice spinner for the 2027 ODI World Cup if he continues his stunning show.

“Credit to Kuldeep because he was under pressure as a spinner. I felt if the recent trend continued, Varun Chakaravarthy could challenge him. But if he performs like this, he should be the guy in the World Cup. This is just the start of what Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill will want to see from him. With the West Indies as his opponent, he has a great chance to dominate in this series,” said Karthik.
