India pacer Gurnoor Brar provided an important breakthrough by dismissing West Indies opener John Campbell during the second ODI at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday, September 30. Campbell had produced a sensational century earlier in the innings but fell while attempting another attacking stroke. The wicket came from the first ball of the 19th over, when Brar bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that angled away from the left-hander.
Campbell attempted to pull the ball but failed to make clean contact. The miscued shot went towards deep mid-wicket, where Naman Dhir completed a straightforward catch. It was Dhir’s second catch of the innings and brought Campbell’s impressive knock to an end.
Campbell scored a blistering 101 from 68 deliveries, hitting nine fours and five sixes. It was his second ODI century and came after more than seven years since his previous hundred in the format. His dismissal left West Indies at 147/2 after 18.1 overs.

West Indies had been asked to bat first after India captain Shubman Gill won the toss. Campbell and Keacy Carty initially added 37 runs from 30 balls before Carty was dismissed for 9 off 10 deliveries in the fifth over.

Campbell then shifted through the gears, taking on Prasidh Krishna in the seventh over by smashing the India pacer for a six and three boundaries. He reached his half-century in just 29 balls, hitting a six against Brar in the eighth over.
The opener continued his aggressive approach while batting alongside captain Shai Hope. Campbell reached his century in the 18th over, taking only 65 balls to complete the milestone and recording the fastest ODI century by a West Indies batter against India.

After Campbell’s departure, Hope continued to anchor the innings. West Indies had reached 177/2 after 22 overs, with Hope batting on 45 from 45 balls and Amir Jangoo on 11 off 10 deliveries.
