Former Indian player Sadagoppan Ramesh believes Ajit Agarkar must be second-guessing his stance on veteran batter Rohit Sharma after the second ODI against the West Indies. Rohit scored a second century in his last three ODI innings with a
sublime 101 off 75 balls, helping India chase down 406 as well.

Reacting to Rohit Sharma’s second century, Ramesh said on his YouTube channel: “Ajit Agarkar was reportedly standing on one leg that Rohit shouldn’t be part of the World Cup squad next year, which is why he hasn’t got his contract extended. And Rohit keeps proving that age is just a number. It’s clear that he has the highest degree of fitness, considering he fielded for 50 overs and then batted long enough to score a century. Agarkar will now be regretting his stance on Rohit’s place in the side.”

“It’s a pattern now between Rohit and Virat, where if one scores a century, the other follows suit. There is a healthy competition between the two, and both are batting like wounded tigers. It is no surprise that Rohit smashed a century against such an attack on such a flat pitch. It is clear that he is batting with fury,” he added.

Sadagoppan Ramesh opined on Team India for consistently playing on batting-friendly pitches with the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa only 12 months away. India easily chased 296 in a mere 41.4 overs in the series opener against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram as well.

“India are making the same mistake time and again. You keep playing on such wickets at home and then end up struggling against even an Ireland away from home. This is the reason behind that. India must return to reality and realize that scores won’t be so high in the 2027 World Cup in South Africa. India must prepare for that eventuality by playing on more balanced pitches at home,” said Ramesh.

“If the team management asks for more even pitches, the state associations will definitely provide such wickets. But India should have planned this before itself. I feel they missed a great opportunity for that in this series. Someone like KL Rahul has kept wickets for 100 overs but hasn’t even faced a ball in this series. Having won the series, India should try and play at least the final ODI on a more challenging batting wicket,” he concluded.
