David Warner Picks His Best Batter in Each Format, Names Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma

Former Australia opener David Warner has revealed his choice for the best batter across all three formats, with India stars Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma making the cut. Warner shared his selections in a post on X on Saturday, October 3. For Test cricket, Warner picked England batter Harry Brook, who currently occupies the top spot in the ICC Test batting rankings.

The 27-year-old has scored 3,610 runs in 41 Tests at an average of 53.08, including 10 centuries and 20 fifties. His highest score is 317, which came against Pakistan in Multan in 2024.

Warner selected India captain Shubman Gill as his preferred ODI batter. Gill is also the current No. 1-ranked batter in the format and has been in outstanding form. He has accumulated 3,713 runs in 70 ODIs at an average of 64.01 and a strike rate of 103.31, with 11 hundreds and 20 fifties. His career-best ODI score is an unbeaten 223 against West Indies.

In T20Is, Warner went with another Indian opener, Abhishek Sharma. The left-hander is currently ranked second in the T20I batting charts and has amassed 1,926 runs in 62 matches at a striking rate of 195.13. His record includes 13 fifties and three centuries, with a highest score of 135.

 

Abhishek further underlined his explosive batting credentials earlier on Saturday, smashing 61 off 28 balls against Pakistan in the Asian Games 2026 final. His innings included seven sixes and three fours as India posted 211/6.

Pakistan fought back through Hasan Nawaz, who scored 96 off 51 deliveries. However, India held their nerve to secure a 19-run victory and claim the gold medal.
