Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif commented on Team India captain Shubman Gill after the second ODI against the West Indies. India beat the visitors by eight wickets to win the series 2-0 with a game to spare. Chasing a huge 406-run target, Shubman Gill led from the front with an unbeaten double hundred. He smashed 223* off just 133 balls at a strike
rate of 167.67. It was his second double hundred in ODIs as well.

“I think he will not stop at two double hundreds. I think he will play at least ten years more in ODIs and I feel he will end with ten double hundreds. He has a wide range of shots. The guy has all the shots. This is why he is scoring runs and has never needed to play the scoop, reverse sweep and such shots. He has a wide range in the V. He is not going to stop. He does not want to take a break and has the hunger to keep playing,” he said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“I feel Gill is going to beat a lot of players. He will go ahead of many greats. I can see the hunger in him to score daddy hundreds. He knows that if he wants to get into that list of greats and also carry the responsibility as captain, he has to do big things. He was looking at the bowling while the West Indies were hitting and he was helpless as captain. In the first half, he got disappointment. But the result always comes in the second half. When he came to bat, he showed his mental strength,” he again shared.

However, Mohammad Kaif said that Shubman Gill would return to the T20I side soon considering the way he is batting. Gill was the vice-captain of the T20I team but was dropped before the 2026 World Cup after struggles with form and strike rate.

“As an opener, he gets out early very less. Where will you get him out? The fault is very less. He is very organised and has a strong technique. You will not see him getting out early. It will happen one or two times that’s all. He is a classy batter and I think he will come back in T20Is as well. He scores in the IPL. He is figuring things out and it’s not like he cannot play. The doors are pretty much open I feel. He has already proved himself and is heading towards his peak now. There is competition but I don’t think he is far from coming back in T20Is,” he concluded.
