Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are back together, and this time, the former India captains are having plenty of fun with the popular ‘Ro-Ko’ tag. After nearly two decades of sharing the dressing room and representing India together, the duo have now teamed up for a hilarious JioStar advertisement ahead of India’s ODI series against Sri Lanka. The campaign revolves around the nickname that has become closely associated with the pair.

Virat Kohli recently admitted that he has started enjoying the ‘Ro-Ko’ tag, saying it “has a nice ring to it” and that people are having “a lot of fun with it”. The new advertisement takes that idea a step further. Rohit and Kohli reunite for a light-hearted conversation, with Rohit pointing out how long it has been since they last came together. Kohli responds that despite the time apart, the fun remains exactly the same.

“Our boys are also very excited,” Virat Kohli says, before Rohit responds with his trademark “Haan woh.” That immediately leaves Kohli confused, setting up one of the central jokes in the advertisement. Rohit has become well known for using “woh” while trying to describe a person or situation when the name does not immediately come to mind. Kohli quickly plays along with the joke.

The pair then turn their attention to some of India’s current stars. Rohit imitates KL Rahul’s trademark ‘Kantara’ celebration, which Kohli instantly recognises. When Ravindra Jadeja is brought into the conversation, Kohli uses sign language to indicate the all-rounder’s famous sword celebration.

The duo then perform Shubman Gill’s familiar hat-doffing celebration before declaring that the young India captain is also excited. “It’s a big year, the country is counting on us,” they say, adding another layer of significance to the campaign.

The timing of the advertisement is particularly interesting because of the attention surrounding Kohli and Rohit’s ODI futures. Both players retired from T20Is after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup triumph and subsequently stepped away from Test cricket in 2025. As a result, ODI cricket is now the only international format in which the two veterans continue to represent India.

Kohli had previously explained why the ‘Ro-Ko’ branding works particularly well now that they share only one format. He suggested that it gives broadcasters an easy and catchy way to promote their appearances together.

The duo also recently reminded fans of their quality during India’s three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Kohli began with an unbeaten 139 off 88 balls in Thiruvananthapuram, registering his 55th ODI century and becoming only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to cross 15,000 ODI runs. Rohit, meanwhile, scored 32 in the opening match before smashing 101 off 75 balls in Guwahati. He followed that with a valuable 92 off 85 in the third ODI, including a 255-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill during India’s record 406-run chase.

India eventually won the series 2-1, with the West Indies claiming the third ODI after chasing down 352. With another ODI assignment against New Zealand coming up before the Sri Lanka series in December, Kohli and Rohit still have plenty of cricket ahead. For now, though, the ‘Ro-Ko’ duo appear more than happy to enjoy the nickname and the memories that come with it.
