Former RCB batter Shreevats Goswami slammed the Ranchi wicket used for the second India-West Indies T20I, saying it was unfair on the bowlers as well. India posted a massive 249/5 in 20 overs before the West Indies stunned them by chasing it down in 18.3 overs as well. The match total of 501 runs was the second-highest in T20I history, behind only the 517 in the 2023 clash between South Africa and the West Indies in Centurion as well.

Talking about this after the second T20I, Goswami said on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, “What do the bowlers do? It’s a nightmare for them, and they can easily get dropped. It’s what happened with Auqib Nabi, who gave over 80 in one game and got dropped. Anshul Kamboj came in and gave over 80 in nine overs and got dropped. So this can kill a bowler’s career. Kuldeep Yadav was looking so threatening in the ODIs. All of a sudden, on a different pitch, he’s getting wacked everywhere.”

“We see this in the IPL as well, where some grounds, you don’t know how many to get. These players are so talented now that they are disappointed when they hit a four and think they should have hit that for six. It was fine as long as it wasn’t happening every game, but now even that seems to be changing. In the IPL, there were a few too many such pitches, especially in Hyderabad,” he again shared.

Meanwhile, former England spinner Monty Panesar slammed Team India for losing the second T20I to the West Indies as well.

“It shows how strong West Indies can be if they get their structural stuff sorted out. India have everything, with the IPL helping players and the strongest board in cricket. They should not be losing to the West Indies when the West Indies don’t have the same level of infrastructure,” said Panesar.
