India opener Abhishek Sharma continued his impressive run in T20I cricket with a blistering 69 off just 30 deliveries against the West Indies in the third T20I at Indore on October 11, 2026. His explosive innings, featuring six fours and five sixes, helped India post 223 runs before the hosts secured a 14-run victory, restricting the visitors to 209/7.

Former India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal praised Sharma’s consistent approach to batting, explaining why the left-hander has become such a dangerous opponent in the shortest format. Speaking on Star Sports, Chahal highlighted that Sharma has remained true to his natural game rather than making unnecessary changes to his technique or mindset. “The best thing about him is that he is playing the same way as he started in his first match. He hasn’t changed anything in his game, and that’s a big reason why he is successful,” Yuzvendra Chahal said.
Chahal also pointed out that Sharma has demonstrated his ability to deliver in important matches, even when he experiences a difficult start to a tournament. The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru spinner referred to Sharma’s performances in major finals to underline his match-winning potential.

“Absolutely, the way he started in the first three matches of the World Cup, the runs hadn’t come, but then he scored runs in the final, and then the runs in the Asian Games final. When he fires, he finishes the match. You don’t have to go to the other batters,” Yuzvendra Chahal explained.

According to Chahal, Sharma’s ability to assess conditions before launching an attack is another important aspect of his batting. Against the West Indies, the opener initially took time to understand the pace and spin on offer before targeting Roston Chase during the spinner’s second over.
“He showed respect in the first over. He figured out the pace on the wicket and how much it was spinning,” Yuzvendra Chahal said, explaining that Sharma’s early assessment helped him prepare for the scoring opportunities that followed.

Yuzvendra Chahal also analysed Sharma’s positioning at the crease and his ability to generate power through timing rather than relying solely on brute force. The former leg-spinner explained that Sharma often moves away from the stumps, encouraging bowlers to target areas they might otherwise avoid. However, the batter uses his reach and timing to punish deliveries in those regions. “He is hitting with just timing and is not putting any power,” Chahal observed.
He further explained that bowlers face a difficult dilemma when Sharma moves towards the leg side. Bowling wider risks conceding a wide, while following the batter can create opportunities for him to hit boundaries and sixes. Sharma’s performance against the West Indies once again demonstrated why his aggressive approach, combined with smart shot selection, makes him a formidable force in T20 international cricket.
